Article: Amazon Kindle Fire impressions

Looks like an interesting bit of kit, especially at the price, but it doesn't appear to be available to order in the UK for yet.

Kindle Tablets coming?

This could be the first serious iPad competitor to reach the market but would you buy one? Let's see what they announce.

Sony Store down

Ok, so it's not really a big problem that I can't shop for Sony Vaio laptops at half past midnight but do they really need to take the store offline till 08:00 Monday? That's a truly ridiculous 32 hours and it's preventing me doing a little research, dammit!

Taito is making its own iPad arcade cabinet

Have a look at this - an iPad add-on that turns the tablet into an arcade machine for your living room. Sounds like a great idea.

Turkey, somewhere

Just arrived and we are in the taxi heading to the villa. No idea
where we are but it's warm, sunny and quiet, even on the dual
carriageway.

Three things we have to teach in schools - bengoldacre

Great post by Ben Goldacre. If everyone finished school with an understanding of the three areas listed in Ben Goldacre's article instead of just being able to use basic word processing software the world would be a better place.

Seriously, does anyone believe that teaching kids to use Excel is a good use of their time? Understanding how to build Excel might be useful, but a course that teaches formula construction and pivot tables (do they even get that far into the application?) has no place in school (my humble opinion - I'm open to counter arguments).

Coconuts and sunshine

An island powered entirely by coconuts and sunshine? Sounds idyllic.

If this then that

Doesn't sound like much but it's pretty cool. Worth a look if you use Facebook, Twitter, DropBox etc.

Rugby World Cup

I've just noticed that all games completed so far in the Rugby World Cup have gone the way of the "Home" team, except Argentina v England. This is a completely useless piece of information.

The Worst Commutes Around The World

It's interesting to see London in second place. I would have thought commuting in London was pretty awful but maybe not.

Photos of Singapore

I'm writing this in a coffee bar in Funan Digital Life Mall,
Singapore. Free wifi is a little rare in Singapore (the hotel charges
£10 per day per device - not funny) so I probably won't be able to
send this till I get to the airport. Nice place, Singapore, and it's
been good to catch up with old friends, but I'm looking forward to
getting home to the wife - it's been a long week.
