Rumours abound that Red Ken is to give Londoners a beach on the Embankment in August 2010, an idea copied from Paris. Do we really need it? Is it worth closing the Embankment and diverting 4 lanes of traffic onto the already congested Strand? Who knows?

Weirdos in the Philippines

BBC News carries a story (link) about a warning issued in the Philippines to the effect that participating in Easter crucifixion rituals is potentially dangerous. I don't really understand these religious types, particularly when they're nailing themselves to crosses. Does it achieve anything useful? Didn't Jesus have himself executed to cleanse us of our sins and to obviate the need for anyone else to be crucified?

I suspect I've missed something important, but it looks like a pretty stupid activity to me.

Firefox 3

I have been playing with the fourth Beta release of Firefox 3 (link) and so far it has proved itself a worthy evolutionary advance over Firefox 2. I haven't spotted any hugely important new features (although there are apparently lots of new technologies waiting to be exploited) but it is fast, stable, easy to use and attractive. Worth considering, if you are currently using Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7.

BBC Wheat Growing

The BBC, always at the cutting edge of journalism, has an article on their website about growing wheat in your back garden. Sounds fun, if you enjoy medieval toil but I will be sticking with Ocado.
